Another Surface
APRIL 2020
The work selected to show at Gallery at Home leans more heavily towards the more experimental side of David Morgan-Davies' work. The collage element in these pieces is used to represent or make a specific statement about the landscape on view, or to reference a personal connection with this location. A unifying factor between this work and David’s more traditional landscapes is the desire to turn both analogue and digital images into tangible objects as artworks for the wall.
Layering has always been a prominent feature in David’s work, both in subject matter by using climatic conditions to create natural layers or through digital collage to emphasise a specific plane within the image. His use of different framing techniques: mounting on dibond, floating acrylic printing, printing on glass or direct to brushed aluminium all make use of layers and surfaces in order to create the finished object.
