Two Worlds

ALEXANDRA YAN WONG

Opens 16th November 1-5pm.

The exhibition will run until 14th December. Visits by appointment only. Please call or text 07725 830195 to book your day and time.

We are thrilled to welcome abstract artist Alexandra Yan Wong back after a successful few years of showing her works in the UK and internationally. Her next show with us, 'Two Worlds’ delves into the nuances of living with division and contrasting elements.

Alexandra writes:

"I like to think about the tension in my work, the equilibrium in which seemingly contrasting elements are suspended together. There are moments of unreserved expression and freedom in the instinctual broad gestures, but always followed by a much longer process of considered arrangement. It is a cyclical process that leads to a different outcome each time.

Materials are important to me personally as they form part of this ‘conflict’ to be resolved. Their initial dissension often leads to a synthesis of these materials: they could be side by side, covered up, scratched back to be revealed. They form the basis of an ongoing pursuit in understanding wholeness.

All manner of thing shall be well
When the tongues of flames are in-folded
Into the crowned knot of fire
And the fire and the rose are one.
(T. S. Eliot, Four Quartets ‘Little Gidding’ (1942) pt. 5)

Two Worlds is a continuation of my exploration of the Coniunctio."

Alongside Alexandra, woodworker and maker Ellen Svenningsen, originally from Copenhagen, will be showing with her beautiful handmade wooden stools and objects.

And we also welcome our old friend and ceramicist Chloe Charrington back to Gallery at Home. Chloe has recently completed her MA in ceramics and will be showing a selection of exquisite sculptural vessels to complete the conversation.

Artwork from this exhibition is available to view and purchase here, and ceramics are available here.
