Reading the Photograph with Sonia Pang - 25th February

A copy of Camera Lucida by Roland Barthes is included.

The goals

- To evaluate our perceptions of what we see, how we interpret, and what we understand to be truth.
- To draw from memories past and the connotations behind them.
- To establish how an image can inform your art practise.
- To discuss the power of the narrative.
- To unpack latent emotions that can contribute to an evolving body of work.

We will discuss a piece of theoretical text from Roland Barthes' Camera Lucida, specifically The Winter Garden chapter.

You are asked to bring in two or three photographic images that resonate with you and discuss and share with us in a group. These can be very personal to you or found, appropriated images.

You may bring a small piece of artwork that connects you to those images if you wish.

This workshop is not only for photographers; all artists of any medium are welcome.
