Mentoring

Gallery owner and curator Sonia Pang

As a gallerist and past art and photography lecturer, I am richly qualified to give advice and support to help carry your practise forward. I am very passionate about continuing to facilitate the needs of artists and enjoy the relationships that these mentoring sessions foster.

So here’s what it’s about:

Much of my mentoring is based around strategies for growth, development within your creative practice, context and theoretical underpinning, sketchbooks as a resource and critical research, presentation and social media portfolios and also how to approach galleries. As much or as little as you feel the need for.

I endeavour to underpin some initial actionable strategies to move forward at each session. You may find one session is enough or you may want to book a series of follow ups.

What qualifies you to run these sessions?

I taught Photography (art and documentary) and Art + Design for 15 years (BA + MA + PGCE).  I run a successful contemporary art gallery.

What are the practicalities?

Sessions last for 60 minutes and are charged at £80. They are either held at the gallery or on Zoom.

To prepare, have a few examples of work in progress ready, sketchbooks etc. and have a notebook to hand. Have a list of questions that relate to your practice and your objectives to help keep us on track.

I do need to emphasise that the tutorial sessions do not necessarily lead to a show at the gallery.

What's the cancellation policy?

I'm sorry but we can not refund once a session is booked.

ARTIST TESTIMONIALS:

"Having a one to one mentoring session with Sonia was invaluable. I was at a crossroads with my art and unsure of what to do next. It helped give me clarity about what’s going well and what my next steps are to help me move forward with my practice. Sonia immediately put me at ease with her kind, non-judgemental and supportive manner. She has continued to support me through keeping the dialogue open. I will definitely be booking more mentoring sessions with her. Couldn’t recommend it highly enough!" - Sara Wibberley
"Sonia’s expertise and passion for art shines in her beautiful gallery. She quickly got to the core themes of my work and began to help me put a plan together to progress my practice. Through her mentoring, I now have a confidence and sense of direction which I haven’t had before. I can’t recommend her highly enough." - James Roberts
